Joe N. Lipscomb Jr., 59 of Omaha, NE, formally of Cedar Rapids died February 13, 2007 in Omaha, NE. Services will be 12:00 p.m. Saturday, February 24, 2007 at Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church with burial in Oak Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Friday at Brosh Chapel in Cedar Rapids, and for an hour prior to services Saturday at the church.

Joe was born July 11, 1947 the son of Joe Nathan and Rozellion Lipscomb Sr. Joe graduated from Washington High School in 1965 in Cedar Rapids. He married Donna Neal Lipscomb in November 1999. He was employed by Quaker Oats. Joe served in the Vietnam War and received the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal, and Marksman.

Joe is survived by his wife Donna J. Neal Lipscomb, Omaha, NE; mother Rozellion Lipscomb of Cedar Rapids; three children Damon (Jill) Shepherd of Frisco, Texas, Carrie Williams of Naperville, IL, Rashad Lipscomb of Cedar Rapids; six step-children: Dejuan, Dion, Renesha Cribbs, Roscoe Vaughn IV, Marcella (Howard) Dial, and Marquita Cribbs, of Omaha, NE; mother-in-law Rose Neal of Omaha, NE; 4 grandchildren and 18 18 stepgrandchildren; sisters and brothers Belinda (Douglas) Bender of Villa Park, CA, Patricia Lipscomb, Pauline (Antonio) Lucas, LaToya Lipscomb and Tracy Lipscomb of Cedar Rapids, many nephews and nieces, aunts, uncles, relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his father, Joe Nathan Lipscomb, Sr.

Susan Kay Ham Bingham

Services:A Celebration of Susan’s life will be held Thursday at 10:00 am at Lensing’s Oak Hill in Coralville.

Visitation:The family will greet friends Wednesday from 5:00 to 8:00 pm at Oak Hill. Susan chose to be cremated and private family burial will be held this spring. Memorials may be directed to The Susan K. Bingham Memorial Fund.

Susan Kay Ham Bingham, 60, of 3458 Ivy Avenue in Tiffin, died Sunday in her home after a long battle with cancer.

Susan was born December 10, 1946 in Iowa City, the daughter of Elmer & Lois (Springmire) Hinkhouse. Raised in Cedar Rapids, Susan graduated from Washington High School in 1965. She then graduated from Iowa Cosmetology College in Iowa City.

She married Douglas Ham on February 1, 1967 in Cedar Rapids. The couple farmed in the Solon area until 1980 until moving to the Iowa City area. The couple divorced in 1990. Susan then worked at Western World in Iowa City where she met Walter Bingham of Oklahoma. The couple married on New Year’s Eve in 1993 in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Susan and Walter divorced in 2000. Susan returned to the Tiffin area where she worked at North Liberty Plastics until 2005.

She enjoyed gardening, bird watching, spending time wither family and caring for her dog Beau. Above all, Susan delighted in watching her grandchildren participate in sports and 4H activities.

Susan is survived by her children, Michelle (Robert) Barker of Cantril, Iowa, Mark (Becky) Ham of Walford, Iowa and Stefanie (Rick) Ball of Tiffin; her grandchildren, Leigha Anderson, Rachel Brinegar & Robert Barker, Jr. and two step-granddaughters, Megan & Morgan Ball.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

William C. Poyneer
1947 - 2006

William C. Poyneer, 59, passed away Wednesday, November 22, 2006, in Branford, Connecticut, following a two-year struggle with cancer. Memorial services will be 10:30 a.m. Friday, December 1, 2006, at Trinity Episcopal Cathedral Chapel, Davenport, Iowa. Cremation rites have been accorded, and burial will be at a later date in Connecticut.
Bill was born June 19, 1947, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, and lived in Bettendorf, Iowa, before moving his home and family to Tucson, Arizona. He later moved to Branford, Connecticut.

Bill was an avid golfer, and he played daily at La Paloma Country Club in Tucson. While living in Arizona, he discovered a new hobby of fly fishing, and enjoyed traveling and teaching the "art" of fly fishing to others. A lifetime student, Bill especially liked history and sports trivia, and was always reading a favorite novel. He loved to travel, particularly enjoying the many road trips he and his family took throughout the southwest. He served with the U.S. Army for three years, with one year of service in Vietnam.

Survivors include daughter, Holly Poyneer, Bettendorf, Iowa; sons, Matthew Poyneer, of California, and Ryan Poyneer, Cedar Rapids, Iowa; and two grandchildren.
Preceding Bill in death were his grandparents, William and Mildred Crawford, and his mother, Joanne Bailey, all of Cedar Rapids, Iowa.

Arbelia (Bebe) Davis, 59, of 190 Cottage Grove Ave. S.E. died Sunday at St. Lukes Hospital following a brief illness. Services: 10:30 a.m. Saturday at St. Paul’s United Methodist Church by Pastor Lonnie Jordon III of Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church, officiating. Entombment: Cedar Memorial Mausoleum. Friends may call at the Cedar Memorial Funeral Home from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Friday and at the church after 10:00 a.m. Saturday.

Surviving is her mother, Josephine Taylor of Cedar Rapids, and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her husband Garland in 1979 and her father Henry Holmes.

She was born October 17, 1946 in McKenzie, Tennessee to Henry and Josephine (Taylor) Holmes and was married to Garland Davis Jr. on June 23, 1974 at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa. She was a 1965 graduate from Cedar Rapids Washington High School.

Bebe formerly was the handbag and hosiery buyer for Armstrong’s Department Store for over 20 years and is currently employed as an administrative assistant for First American Properties.

Bebe is a member of Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church, the Junior League of Cedar Rapids, African American Historical Museum & Cultural Center of Iowa, the Cedar Rapids Symphony Guild, Kidney Foundation and had been a member of the Criterion Club. Bebe had done volunteer work at Mercy Medical Center where she helped with the Cancer Society and was a member of the Mercy Medical Center Auxiliary. She received the NAACP Martin Luther King Award for her volunteer work in the community. She was also honored by the American Business Women’s Association for business accomplishments in the area. Bebe volunteered for “His Hands Free Medical Clinic” in Cedar Rapids. Bebe was designated “Woman of the Year” by an Iowa Governor and has received “The Humanitarian Award”. A grant was given in her name for the 75th Anniversary Lecture Series at Mt. Mercy College.

Bert W. Leonard, 58, of 142 Miller Ave. SW died Monday, Aug. 14, 2006 at Mercy medical Center after an extended illness. Memorial services at 10:30 AM on Thursday at Eden United Church of Christ where friends may visit with the family after 9:30 Am. Rev. Dr. Glenn Hunt will officiate. The Cremation Society of Eastern Iowa is in charge of arrangements.
Survivors include his wife, Sheryl, a son Bert Wesley Leonard (Jackie) of Shellsburg, a daughter, Shelley Allison (Joe) of Lone Tree, two step daughters, Heather Sneed (Tim) of Marion and Angelia Davis (Casey Brown) of Cedar Falls, his mother, Cristle Leonard of Cedar Rapids, three brothers, Clarence "Bud" Leonard (Claire) and Robert Bliss all of Cedar Rapids and Wayne Collum of Marion. He is also survived by three grandchildren, Erik Allison, Hunter Hartgrave and Joseline Leonard. He was preceded in death by his father.
Bert was born on Oct. 18, 1947 in Cedar Rapids, the son of Clarence and Cristle Luchterhand Leonard. He married Diane Netolicky Lindhorst on Nov. 16, 1965 in Cedar Rapids. They were later divorced. He later married Sheri Davis on Aug. 7, 2004 in Cedar Rapids. Bert was a self-employed project manager. He enjoyed scouting and was an Eagle Scout. He was a wonderful husband, father, son, grandfather and brother. He will be greatly missed by his beloved family and many friends. In lieu of flowers a memorial fund has been established in Bert's name.

Robert Parry, 58, formerly of Cedar Rapids, died Sept. 2, 2006, in his home in Portland, Ore., after a short bout with cancer.

He is survived by his ex wife, Linda; daughter, Colby, and son, Evan, all of Portland; his mother, Jean Parry of Cedar Rapids; and his sister, Susan Nohlgren of Chicago.

He was preceded in death by his father, Evan Parry. Bob was born Sept. 18, 1947, in Cedar Rapids. He graduated in 1965, from Washington High School, where he was president of the student council. During his senior year, he was voted the guy with the best sense of humor. He attended the University of Iowa and one semester at University College of University of London.

In 1970, he married Linda Slavens in San Francisco. They were later divorced, but remained friends. Bob was a technical writer and was recently parts technical analyst for Freightliner in Portland.

He lived in his floating home on the Columbia River and enjoyed his two sailboats. Before his illness he had been making plans to sail to Mexico and live on the sailboat when he retired. Any memorial may be sent to American Cancer Society with research on colon cancer a priority.

Sharon Sue (Smith) Sickles, 58, of 204 31st St. NE, died Monday, Sept. 11, 2006, in her home after a short illness. Services: 10 am. Saturday, Stewart Funeral Home, by the Rev. Jim Bonewald of Knox Presbyterian Church. Friends may call one hour before service time Saturday at Stewart Funeral Home.

Survivors include a son, Kori Sickles of Korea; a daughter, Kristine Sickles of Cedar Rapids; two sisters, Leeann Middleton of Marietta, Ga., and Janeen Wilcox of Cedar Rapids; and her husband, Kimett Sickles of Cedar Rapids

Also surviving is very special granddaughter, Marlene Sickles, who was the joy and love of Sharon’s life. Sharon was preceded in death by her parents, Albert and Helen Smith; and a brother, Tom Smith. Sharon was born Oct. 20, 1947, in St. Louis, Mo. She married Kimett Sickles on April 11, 1982, in Cedar Rapids. Sharon worked for several medical offices as a medical transcriptionist in Cedar Rapids. A memorial fund has been established and may be directed to her daughter Kristine Sickles.
